Bahloul
Bahloul

He was one of the scholars and virtuous people of Kufa. He issued fatwas according to the doctrine of the Ahl Al-Bayt (AS), and was known for his debates with Abu Hanifa and others.

He was at the peak of perfection, knowledge and reason, and in order to get rid of the evils of the Abbasid Caliphs, he would act like a madman, displaying delirium and foolishness, by order of Imam Al-Kadhim (AS), in order to preserve himself and his religion, and to be able to act to eliminate falsehood and reveal the truth through foolishness. He became known as the madman, contrary to reality and truth, due to his high position, virtue and great status.

The shrine of Bahloul al-Kufi is one of the ancient archaeological shrines in Iraq. It is located in the old Karkh cemetery in Baghdad, behind the mosque and shrine of Sheikh Marouf al-Karkhi. It contains the grave of the ascetic Bahloul ibn Umar Qasir al-Sayrafi, who died in 190 AH. His lineage goes back to Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib, the uncle of the Prophet Muhammad. Bahloul accompanied the Abbasid Caliph Harun Al-Rashid during his reign. The shrine building was renovated by Governor Kazim Pasha in 1893 AD, and it was beautifully constructed. Nearby is the shrine of Baba Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion in India, as well as the shrine of Prophet Joshua ibn Nun. Also nearby is the Sheikh Junaid Al-Baghdadi Mosque. It is about 2 km from the city center.
