Al-Junayd Al-Baghdadi
Al-Junayd Al-Baghdadi

Al-Junayd al-Baghdadi is Abu al-Qasim al-Junayd ibn Muhammad, one of the most prominent scholars of Sufism in Islam. He was born in Baghdad in 215 AH and died in 298 AH. He is called "the Master of the Sufi Order" because he combined asceticism, worship, and knowledge, and was known for his strict adherence to the Quran and Sunnah. He was famous for his balanced stance against excesses in Sufism, and scholars considered him the leader of Sunni Sufism.

His family was originally from Nahavand (now in Iran), but he lived and died in Baghdad. He studied under great scholars like his uncle al-Sari al-Saqati and al-Harith al-Muhasibi, and he taught Shafi'i jurisprudence. He had many students, such as al-Shibli. Al-Junayd was known for his wisdom, devotion, and commitment to pure beliefs, and some said, "My eyes have never seen anyone like him."

Al-Junayd's teachings focused on the development of the "inner wisdom" concept, which stressed the importance of personal spiritual experiences and direct spiritual connection with God.

Al-Junayd's philosophy was deeply influenced by the teachings of earlier Sufi mystics and was highly influential on subsequent Sufi thought. He had many students and followers during his lifetime, and his works are still studied and discussed by Sufi scholars and practitioners today.
