Sheikh Mustafa Jawad al-Marufi was a famous Iraqi Shiite scholar, poet, and cleric who lived in Baghdad during the 19th century CE. He is best remembered for his extensive knowledge in various fields, including history, literature, and linguistics, as well as his proficiency in several languages, including Arabic, Turkish, and French. Al-Marufi was also a prolific writer and had several works published in newspapers and magazines during his lifetime. His writings dealt with various topics, including religion, philosophy, and social issues of the time.

In addition to his scholarship, Al-Marufi was also known for his generous demeanor and charitable deeds. He spent a significant amount of his time and wealth on charitable causes, particularly on helping poor and needy people. He was also known for his moderate approach and tolerance towards diversity.

Despite his passing, Al-Marufi's legacy continues to be remembered and celebrated, particularly among the Shiite community. His followers still visit his shrine every year during the month of Ramadan.

Al-Marufi's nickname, Sheikh Mufti al-Askari, refers to his position as the Chief Mufti (head of the college of Muslim clerics) in the Holy Shiite City of Al-Askari. He was given the position after the death of Sheikh Mufti Hasan.

Many of Al-Marufi's works are still being read and used as references today by scholars, researchers, and students of Islamic studies. His ideas and perspective continue to shape the way we understand the history and culture of Iraq and the Islamic world at large.
